# A sample that falls

> A person checks a share of delivered jobs, and the share falls toward a floor while send-backs stay rare. The owner console says when the line can come out.

A sample answers one question: how many delivered jobs does a person still need to check?

## A fixed sample

`human: { sample: '10%' }` has a person check one delivered job in ten. The job ships first; the check comes after, so a sampled job never waits. A check that finds a defect sends the job back with the note, and the AI redoes it at no charge to the buyer:

A fixed sample runs on Free. The person is you or your staff, in the owner console's review inbox.

## A sample that falls

Add `floor`, and the share falls while the checks find nothing:

Each week, while send-backs on the sampled jobs stay under 2%, the share halves, never below `floor`. A week over 2% puts it back at `sample`. `by` names the role that checks: your staff, or a Pool's reviewers, each paid per check at the act and never clawed back. ## Delete the line

The owner console counts how often the person at the line changed what the AI drafted, and what that cost:

When the person's changes stay under the bar the step's stakes set, the console proposes the next rung down, and moves the step back up on its own the week the evidence breaks: [Move a step to AI](https://services.dev/docs/operate/line.md). A step your [rules](https://services.dev/docs/people/rules.md) reserve to a credential is the exception. That line is how the Service meets licensing by design, and `check` reads it from the rules, never from this count.
