When a date is missed

The running jobjob_4Tx2 · delivered · workpapers-2026.txt · return.txt · $1,800.00 charged

A return filed late because the brand's own e-file number went stale. Whose date it was, the 20% off the charge, the penalty notice that orders its own response, the guarantee's payment of the penalty and its interest, up to $5,000, after the abatement request, and the cases where the date isn't the brand's.

The annual return stands behind its date: guarantee: { covers: ['penalties', 'interest on them'], up_to: 5_000, after: 'notice-response', excludes: 'held' } on the file clock. A missed date costs the brand twice, once on the price and once on the penalty, and never the client.

Cedar Works, an S corp with two shareholders, files federally and in California. Three days before 15 March, the clock's rung ran the tentative tax and the extensions. California's is automatic. The federal Form 7004 couldn't go: the brand's EFIN had gone stale, so the e-file system refused it, and the return waited on the brand, not the client:

The record says what the date waited on. That decides who answers for it, and here it was the brand's own credential.

An S corp owes a late-filing penalty for each shareholder, each month, even at $0 tax. In May the IRS's CP162 arrives. Its notice.received orders a Notice Response, which the brand orders at $0 since the date was its own, and the response asks for first-time abatement:

The guarantee pays once the notice response has asked for the penalty to be taken off, so the brand pays only what the IRS keeps. Here first-time abatement is refused, and the guarantee refunds the penalty and its interest from the brand's line, AI and members' pay whole. Days the work was held on the client are left out:
